Two-step sign-in adds a second check to your password: a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone. Even if someone steals your password, they can't sign in without your phone. To turn it on, go to Settings › Security, open Two-step sign-in, add Belancer to your app, type the code and save your recovery codes.

Before you start

  • A phone with a free authenticator app (Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator).
  • A safe place to keep your recovery codes: a notebook, a password manager, or a printed copy.

Steps

1Open Security settings

Open the account menu and choose Security. On the Two-step sign-in card, the status shows Off. Choose to turn it on.

2Add Belancer to your app

Under 1. Add Belancer to your app, scan the QR code with your authenticator app. On your phone you can choose Open in the app instead, or Copy the key and paste it into the app.

3Enter the code

Under 2. Enter the 6-digit code the app shows, type the code. It changes every 30 seconds. Choose Turn on two-step sign-in.

4Save your recovery codes

On Save your recovery codes, choose Copy codes or Download as a file. Keep them somewhere safe, away from your phone. Tick I saved these codes somewhere safe and choose Done.

Important: Each recovery code works only once. Anyone with your codes and password can sign in, so never share them.

What happens next

The card now shows On since today's date. Next time you sign in, you'll see Enter your code. Type the code from your app, or choose Use a recovery code instead.

Troubleshooting

  • "That code isn't right. Check the time on your phone." Set your phone's date and time to automatic and use the newest code.
  • "Too many wrong codes." Wait a while, then try again.
  • I got a new phone. Sign in on your old phone, turn two-step sign-in off and on again with the new phone. Or use a recovery code to sign in, then set it up again.
  • I'm running low on recovery codes. Choose New recovery codes, enter a code from your app, and save the new set. The old ones stop working.
  • I want to turn it off. Choose Turn off and enter an app code or a recovery code. Your other devices are signed out.
  • "Required for your account." Some accounts must keep two-step sign-in on, so it can't be turned off there.

Good to know

  • Why freelancers should turn it on. Your Balance and payout accounts are what a thief wants. With two-step sign-in, a stolen password is not enough to reach them.
  • Codes work offline. The authenticator app makes codes even without internet or mobile data, so you can sign in while travelling.
  • SMS fallback. For Bangladeshi numbers, an SMS code may be offered as a backup. The app is safer, so use it first.
  • Keep codes off your phone. If your phone is lost, recovery codes saved only on that phone are lost too. Print them or write them down.

Tip: Turning two-step sign-in on or off signs you out of other devices. It's a good moment to check devices and sign-ins.

Note: If staff reset your two-step sign-in after an identity check, you'll get an email and payouts pause for safety. Set it up again as soon as you can.

Questions and answers

Which app do I need?

Any free authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator. Install it from the Play Store or App Store.

What are recovery codes for?

If you lose your phone, each recovery code lets you sign in once instead of the app code. You get 10 codes; keep them somewhere safe.

My code doesn't work. Why?

Codes change every 30 seconds and depend on your phone's clock. Use the newest code and set your phone's time to automatic.

Do I have to enter a code every time?

No. When you sign in, tick Remember this device and that browser won't ask again for 30 days.

Is two-step sign-in required?

It is optional for most people, but Belancer may require it for some accounts or before a withdrawal. If it is required, you'll see a message asking you to turn it on.

I lost my phone and my recovery codes. What now?

Contact support. After we check your identity, staff can reset two-step sign-in. Payouts pause for a while for safety.
