Consulting and mentoring

Start your mentor application with your CV

In short. Upload a Word or PDF CV, or paste its text, and Belancer suggests your years of experience, areas, levels, links and a short bio. You check every part first. It takes 4 steps: Find the card; Add your CV; Check each part; Use these.

If you already have a CV, you do not need to type it all again. On the mentor application, Start with your CV reads it and suggests your years of experience, the areas and levels you could mentor, links to your work and a short bio. Nothing is used until you have checked it and pressed Use these.

Before you start

  • Your CV as a Word or PDF file, or its text ready to paste.
  • A started mentor application (see mentoring).

Steps

1Find the card

Open Become a mentor and start your application. The Start with your CV card sits at the top of the form.

2Add your CV

Drop your file on the card or choose Choose a file. Prefer to paste? Open Paste my CV text instead, paste it and choose Read my CV. Tick Keep my CV file as proof for staff only if you want staff to be able to see the file. Otherwise it is deleted after reading.

3Check each part

You will see We found these. Check each part. Un-tick anything that is not right and fix the years, links, short bio and notes. The bio is only a draft in your own voice, so rewrite it if you like.

4Use these

Choose Use these. Empty parts of the form are filled in. If you had already typed something different, Belancer asks Replace what I typed? and keeps your words unless you say yes. The 3 situations I can help with stay empty: those are yours to write.

If something goes wrong

  • "CV reading is not available yet." The reader is switched off for now. Fill the form by hand.
  • "This PDF looks like a scan." Paste the text of your CV or use a Word file.
  • "This PDF is locked with a password." Save an unlocked copy, or use a Word file.
  • "This file is too big." Use a smaller file, or paste the text.
  • Daily limit reached. Try again tomorrow, or fill the form by hand.

Good to know

  • You stay in control: nothing is submitted. Your normal application checks and autosave work as before.
  • Contact details never show: phone numbers, emails and chat handles are removed before reading and never put in your bio.

Questions and answers

Which files can I use?

Word (.docx) and plain text files, and PDF when the PDF reader is switched on. You can also paste your CV as text. A scanned PDF has no text to read, so paste the text or use a Word file.

Is my CV safe?

We remove contact details before the AI reads it. The file is deleted straight after reading, unless you tick Keep my CV file as proof for staff.

Will it write my application for me?

No. It only suggests. You check every part, you can change anything, and the three situations you can help with are always yours to write.

Can I read my CV more than once?

There is a daily limit. If you reach it, try again tomorrow or fill the form by hand.
