In short
When a client adds the IP assignment to a project, the freelancer signs it when accepting the work. After the client has paid in full, the rights in the finished work belong to the client.
Closed beta text. Belancer's lawyer in Bangladesh reviews this agreement before public launch.
Who this is between
This assignment is between the client who hired for the project (the "client") and the freelancer or agency who signs it (the "creator"). Belancer is not a party to it; it only stores the signature.
When it applies
A client can add the IP assignment to a project. The creator signs it with their full name when they accept the project or contract. The signature is stored for that one project, with the time, IP address and browser. Without the signature on a project, the rules in the Terms of Service apply.
What is assigned
When the client has paid for the work in full and the money has been released, the creator assigns to the client all rights in the work made for this project, including copyright and any other rights that come with it, in every country and for as long as those rights last. The work means everything the creator delivers for the project.
What the creator keeps
- Tools, methods, templates and know-how the creator already had before the project, or builds on their own. The client may use these inside the delivered work.
- Work that was not paid for, or that was returned in a dispute decision.
- The right to say they did the work, and to show it in their portfolio, unless the client asked for it to stay private.
What the creator promises
- The work is the creator's own, and it does not copy other people's work or break their rights.
- Anything taken from other sources, such as fonts, images, code libraries or stock files, is clearly listed with its licence, and the licence lets the client use it.
- The creator will sign any further paper reasonably needed to make the assignment effective.
Disputes and refunds
If a dispute decides the money goes back to the client, the assignment does not take effect for the part that was refunded. The orders and disputes policy explains how decisions are made. Questions about this assignment: [email protected].
