NDA and IP assignment on projects (coming soon): how to keep a project private today
In short. NDA and IP assignment add-ons show as Coming soon when you post a project. Until they open, keep private details out of the story and files. It takes 4 steps: See the add-ons when posting a project; Keep private details out of the story and files; Share the details after you hire; Agree how the work may be used.

On this page
Clients will be able to protect their ideas with an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) or an IP assignment. Both are add-ons in step 4 of posting a project, and today both show Coming soon: they can't be picked yet, and no project on Belancer has them. Until they open, keep private details out of the public project and share them only after you hire.
Before you start
- Clients: decide what is safe to show every freelancer, and what should wait until you hire.
- Freelancers: read what's in the project story and files; you won't be asked to sign anything today.
Steps
1See the add-ons when posting a project
When you post a project, step 4 Add-ons lists NDA ("Freelancers sign an NDA before they can see your files and full story") and IP assignment, each marked Coming soon. Posting is free and works without them.
2Keep private details out of the story and files
Describe the work clearly without secrets: no passwords, customer lists, unreleased designs or anything you wouldn't show every freelancer.
3Share the details after you hire
Once you hire, the contract's workroom is private to you and the freelancer. Share files and details there.
4Agree how the work may be used
If you need the freelancer to keep things private or not show the work in a portfolio, say so in the contract's workroom before work starts, so it's in writing.
What happens next
When the NDA add-on opens, freelancers will sign it with their full name before they can read the full story and open files marked After NDA. With IP assignment, the freelancer will sign when accepting the contract. This guide will show those steps then.
Troubleshooting
- I can't pick NDA. It's marked Coming soon and can't be added yet. Post without it.
- I put private details in my story by mistake. Edit the project and remove them. See edit or close a project.
Good to know
- Contact details stay hidden. Talk and share files through Belancer.
- Portfolio use: freelancers should ask the client in writing before showing client work in a portfolio.
- Coming soon: the NDA and IP assignment add-ons, with a signature record for each freelancer.
Note: This guide will show how to sign once the NDA add-on opens.
Questions and answers
Can I add an NDA to my project?
Not yet. NDA and IP assignment are add-ons in step 4 of posting a project, and they show Coming soon. You can post without them.
Will I have to sign an NDA as a freelancer?
Not today: no project on Belancer has an NDA yet. When the add-on opens, you'll sign with your full name before seeing the files and full story.
What is an IP assignment?
An agreement that transfers the rights in the work you deliver to the client on payment. It's also coming soon as an add-on.
How do I share private details today?
Keep them out of the public project story and files. After you hire, share them in the contract's workroom, where only the two of you can read them.
Are messages and files private?
Yes. Only the people in a conversation or contract can read it, and contact details stay hidden.
