Hiring on Belancer

Edit, extend, close or reopen your project

In short. Change your project's budget or story, keep it open longer, close it when you've hired or no longer need it, and reopen it within the allowed time. It takes 5 steps: Edit a project; Fix a project that needs changes; Extend the closing date; Close a project; Reopen a project.

Manage your projects from My projects. Choose Edit project to update the budget, story or skills; Extend to keep it open longer; Close project when you've hired or no longer need it; and Reopen project if you change your mind within 14 days.

Before you start

  • Open My projects. Tabs show Open, Drafts and Closed projects.
  • If you post for a company, switch Acting as to the company.

Steps

1Edit a project

Open the project and choose Edit project. Change what you need and choose Save changes. You see "Changes saved." Freelancers who already proposed are told about the change.

2Fix a project that needs changes

If you see "Belancer asked for changes before this goes live", open it, read the reason, edit, and choose Fix and resend.

3Extend the closing date

Projects close after 30 days without a hire. When you see Closes on a date, choose Extend, pick Extend by (up to 30 days) and confirm. You see "Closing date moved."

4Close a project

Choose Close project. Pick a reason (optional): I hired someone elsewhere, I don't need it any more or Other reason. Confirm Close project. You see "Project closed. Freelancers were told."

5Reopen a project

In the Closed tab, open the project and choose Reopen project. You can do this until the date shown ("You can reopen it until…"). You see "Your project is live again."

What happens next

When you close, every freelancer who wasn't hired sees Not selected. Closed and expired projects stay in your Closed tab with their proposals, so you can come back to them.

Troubleshooting

  • I can't change the project type. Type and currency are locked once proposals arrive. Close it and post a new project if you need a different type.
  • "Add-ons can't change on a live project." Add-ons stay as they were when you posted.
  • The Reopen button is gone. The reopen window has passed. Post a new project; you can start from the old one as a template if your company saved it.
  • My draft disappeared. Check Drafts. Drafts save automatically as you go.

Good to know

  • Freelancers' credits: if you close a project within 24 hours of posting without hiring, freelancers get their proposal credits back. After that, credits aren't refunded, so close only when you're sure.
  • Filled projects: when you hire, the project shows Filled.
  • Templates: companies can save a posted project as a private template for next time.

Tip: If you're not getting the right proposals, edit the story to be clearer and invite matched freelancers before you think about closing.

Note: Your project's budget always stays in your account currency. Freelancers see it exactly as you set it.
