Mentoring connects you with experienced freelancers who can guide your career, freelancing, portfolio, interviews or business. Open Mentors, filter by area and level, pick a mentor and book a session, or a free intro call if the mentor offers one. Mentoring is not the same as a consultation: a consultation is one paid expert call, while mentoring is a relationship with an approved mentor. Your sessions live under My mentoring, apart from My calls. You still pay on Belancer, meet in the private room, get notes and follow up.

Before you start

  • A Belancer account.
  • One clear goal for the session, for example "Get my first client" or "Fix my portfolio".

Steps

1Open Mentors

Go to Mentors ("Learn from freelancers who have done it").

Mentors page with filters
Mentors page with filters

2Filter

Use Search (for example "portfolio", "first client", "pricing"), Area (Career, Freelancing, Portfolio review, Interview preparation, Business growth) and Level they help (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced). Tick Free intro call only if you want a free first chat. Choose Show mentors.

3Compare mentors

Each card shows Areas, Best for (level), any free intro, and the From price. Open a profile to read reviews and topics.

4Book

Choose Book a call for a paid session, or Book free intro if offered. Pick the length and time, answer the questions and confirm (paid sessions go to checkout). See book a consultation.

5Meet and follow up

Join from My mentoring when the room opens. The booking page shows what happens next and reminds you a day and an hour before. After the session, read the mentor's notes. Mentors can send a follow-up offer if you want ongoing help.

What happens next

Paid sessions are released to the mentor after the session. Mentoring has its own fee setting. You'll both be asked for a double-blind review.

Troubleshooting

  • "No mentors match yet." Try fewer filters. New mentors join every week. If you need one expert call rather than a mentor, see book a consultation.
  • No free intro option. The mentor hasn't turned it on, it isn't open yet, or you've already had one with this mentor.
  • I need to move my session. See reschedule or cancel a call.

Good to know

  • Your money is protected: a paid mentoring session is held as Payment Secured and released after the session.
  • Keep it on Belancer: calls, notes and files stay in your conversation, so you can come back to the advice later.
  • Free intros create no payment and no fee; they're a short chat to see if you're a good fit.
  • Mentors are approved by Belancer after an application and an interview, and carry the Belancer Mentor badge.
  • Become a mentor: choose Become a mentor and apply. After approval, set up your 1:1 mentoring offer with up to 3 areas and the levels you help. This is separate from offering consultations.

Tip: Bring your profile or gig link to a portfolio review. Mentors give the most useful feedback on real examples.

Note: Mentoring has its own fee. Cancellation and no-show rules are the same as for paid calls.
