On this page
Belancer protects you as long as the money and the conversation stay on Belancer. Most scams try to move you somewhere else: to WhatsApp, to a direct bKash payment, to a fake sign-in page. Learn the warning signs below, and remember one rule: pay, get paid and talk only on Belancer. When something feels wrong, report it.
Before you start
- Turn on two-step sign-in. See two-step sign-in.
- Know that contact details in chats are hidden on purpose. See contact details hidden.
Steps
1Watch for the warning signs
- Asking to pay or be paid outside Belancer, "to save fees".
- Asking you to pay for training, a test, a "registration fee" or equipment before work.
- Offers far above normal rates for very simple tasks.
- Pressure: "decide right now", "don't tell Belancer".
- Links to sign in somewhere that isn't belancer.com.
- Requests for your password, codes, PIN, ID card photos or bank details in chat.
2Check who you're dealing with
- Clients: Payment verified, past projects and reviews.
- Freelancers: verified ID, Handpicked badges, reviews and portfolio.
3Keep everything on Belancer
Use Belancer chat, files and voice or video calls. Pay only at Belancer checkout, where your money is held as Payment Secured until the work is approved.
4Report and block
Choose Report this message (or profile, gig or project), pick Scams and payments outside Belancer, and send. You can also block the person.
5Secure your account if needed
If you clicked a strange link or shared a code, change your password straight away and sign out other devices. See devices and sign-ins.
What happens next
Scam reports get high priority. While a scam report about someone is checked, they can't change their payout accounts. Our team may remove messages, restrict or suspend the account, and tells you in general words when it's done.
Troubleshooting
- My message with a phone number shows "[phone hidden]". That's normal protection, not a scam.
- I got an SMS or email "from Belancer" asking for a code. Don't share it. Belancer never asks. Report it to support.
- The other person moved to another app. Stop and report. You lose Belancer's protection there.
Good to know
- Fake job posts asking you to deposit money are removed when reported.
- Your reports are private: the person is never told who reported them.
- Students and new freelancers are common targets. Share this page with friends who are starting out.
Important: Belancer will never ask you to send money to unlock earnings, verify an account or release a payment.
Tip: If an offer sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Take your time and ask in support chat if you're unsure.
Questions and answers
Someone asked me to pay or get paid on WhatsApp or bKash directly. Is that allowed?
No. Payments outside Belancer aren't protected and break the rules. Belancer even blocks those requests in chat. Report it.
A client wants me to pay for "training" or a "test" before work. Is it real?
No genuine client asks a freelancer to pay to get work. Don't pay, and report the profile or message.
Will Belancer ever ask for my password or code?
Never. Belancer staff never ask for your password, sign-in codes, PIN or card number.
How do I check a client is real?
Look for Payment verified on their client profile, their history and reviews, and keep all talks on Belancer.
I already sent money outside Belancer. What can I do?
Contact your bank or wallet provider straight away, report the person on Belancer, and contact support. We can't refund payments made outside Belancer.
How do I report a scam?
Use Report this message, profile, gig or project, and choose the scam or outside payment reason. Those reports get high priority.
