You can stop an order in two ways. Cancel order works instantly with a full refund for the buyer before requirements are sent, or when the order is late. Otherwise, choose Ask to cancel: the other side has 48 hours to accept. If they decline or don't answer, a Belancer specialist decides. Delivered work can't be cancelled; use Report a problem instead.
Before you start
- Message the other side first. Many problems are solved with a quick chat, more time or a revision.
- Know your order's status: before requirements, in progress, late, or delivered.
Steps
1Open the order and the actions menu
Open the order from Orders and choose More actions.
2aCancel instantly (buyer, if allowed)
If you see Cancel order with "Full refund", the order hasn't started or is late. Choose it, add a reason if you like, and confirm Cancel & get … back. The money goes back right away.
2bAsk to cancel (both sides)
Choose Ask to cancel. Pick a reason, such as We agreed to cancel, Seller can't do it, Buyer isn't responding or Took too long, and write a message. Read What happens next, then choose Send request.
3The other side answers
They see the request with what happens If you accept, If you decline and No answer in 48 h. They can choose Accept & cancel (or Accept & refund for sellers) or Decline & send to Belancer with a reason.
4If it goes to Belancer
The order shows Under Belancer review. The money stays frozen as Payment Secured, and timers pause. You can Tell Belancer your side and add files. A specialist decides, usually within 2 business days, and you both get an email with the reason.
What happens next
When an order is cancelled, it shows This order was cancelled with the refund amount. Refunds go to the buyer's Belancer Balance by default, in the order's currency. Cancelled orders don't get reviews.
Troubleshooting
- "Cancel not allowed." The work was delivered. Use Report a problem. See report a problem.
- I sent a cancel request by mistake. Choose Withdraw request before the other side answers.
- I'm the seller and can't finish. Ask to cancel early with an honest reason; it's better for everyone than a late order.
- My refund isn't in my bank. By default refunds go to your Belancer Balance, instantly. If you asked for the original method, it can take a few working days, depending on the gateway.
Good to know
- Late orders: buyers can always cancel a late order instantly for a full refund. No dispute is needed.
- Unpaid orders are not orders yet: an unpaid checkout is kept for 24 hours, then closes without any charge.
- Contracts are ended, not cancelled. See end a contract.
Tip: Write the reason clearly and calmly. If Belancer reviews it, your messages are part of what the specialist reads.
Note: The full rules for late delivery, cancellations and refunds are in the order policy.
Questions and answers
Can I cancel an order instantly?
Yes, as a buyer, in two cases: before you've sent the requirements, or when the order is late. You get a full refund.
What if the other side doesn't answer my cancel request?
They have 48 hours. If they decline or don't answer, a Belancer specialist reviews it, usually within 2 business days.
Where does my refund go?
To your Belancer Balance in the order's currency by default. You can ask for it to go back to the original payment method instead.
Can I cancel after the work was delivered?
No. If delivered work is wrong, use Report a problem instead of cancelling.
Does a cancellation hurt the seller?
A mutual cancellation with a reason before work starts doesn't count against the seller's record. Seller-caused cancellations do.
What happens if the buyer never sends requirements?
After 7 days without requirements, either side can cancel for a full refund.
