Why is my Belancer account in BDT or USD? Account country explained
In short. Your sign-up country sets your currency and payment methods for good: Bangladesh pays in BDT, everyone else in USD. Nothing is ever converted. It takes 5 steps: Check your account currency; Understand what you see as a client; Understand what you see as a freelancer; Withdraw USD earnings; Hiring as a company.

Belancer works in two currencies and never mixes them. Your account country, chosen once at sign-up, decides yours: accounts in Bangladesh use Bangladeshi taka (BDT) and pay through SSLCommerz (bKash, Nagad, Rocket, local cards) or bank transfer; accounts anywhere else use US dollars (USD) and pay with a card through Stripe or with PayPal. Prices and payments are never converted.
Before you start
- You set your country on the sign-up form. See how to sign up.
- You can see it, read-only, in Settings › Preferences.
Steps
1Check your account currency
Open Settings › Preferences. Your currency is shown as information only, next to your account country. It is not something you can switch.
2Understand what you see as a client
- Bangladesh account: every price, budget and invoice is in ৳ BDT. Checkout shows bKash, Nagad, Rocket, debit or credit card, and bank transfer (NPSB or RTGS).
- Account outside Bangladesh: everything is in $ USD. Checkout shows debit or credit card (Stripe) and PayPal. A client service fee applies to USD payments and is shown as its own line at checkout. See Belancer fees.
Gigs that have no price in your currency don't show up in your search results.
3Understand what you see as a freelancer
You set two prices for every package, extra and hourly rate: one in BDT and one in USD. Each client sees only the price in their currency. You are paid in the currency the client paid in, so you can hold a BDT Balance and a USD Balance side by side. See your Belancer Balance.
4Withdraw USD earnings
Withdrawals are in BDT only for now. Converting USD earnings to BDT opens soon; until then they stay on your USD card. See your USD earnings.
5Hiring as a company
When you act as a company, the company's registered country decides the currency. A company registered outside Bangladesh pays in USD even if a Bangladeshi person manages it.
What happens next
Every order snapshots its currency and price at checkout. If a seller changes prices later, your open orders don't change.
Troubleshooting
- My country is wrong. Contact support with the reason. Changes are checked and recorded; they are not instant.
- "That method isn't open for your currency." Pick one of the methods shown for your currency.
- "The offer must be in the buyer's currency." Sellers: custom offers are always priced in the client's currency.
- I live abroad but I'm Bangladeshi. You can hire in USD from abroad. Selling is only for Bangladeshi citizens living in Bangladesh.
Good to know
- Freelancer prices. When you create a gig, set both prices. Each package must cost more than the one before it in both currencies, and both must meet the minimum price. See gig packages and extras.
- Project budgets. A project's budget is in the client's currency. A freelancer is paid in that same currency, so a USD project pays into the freelancer's USD Balance.
- Credits. When credit packs open, they'll have separate BDT and USD prices, and you'll see only the price for your account.
- Refunds always go back in the currency you paid in.
Note: Visitors who are not signed in see a currency guessed from their location, with a "Not in Bangladesh?" link. It locks to your account country once you sign in.
Important: BDT and USD amounts are never added together anywhere on Belancer: not in your Balance, statements or invoices.
Questions and answers
Can I switch my currency from BDT to USD?
No. Currency follows your account country and is not a setting you can change. If your country is wrong, contact support with the reason.
Why can't I see PayPal at checkout?
PayPal and Stripe are only for USD accounts. Accounts in Bangladesh pay in BDT through bKash, Nagad, Rocket, local cards or bank transfer.
Does Belancer convert prices?
Never. Sellers set a separate BDT price and USD price for every package. You see only the one for your account currency.
I'm a Bangladeshi freelancer. Can I earn in USD?
Yes. When a USD client pays you, the money goes to your USD Balance. Converting it to BDT for withdrawal opens soon; until then it stays safe on your USD card.
What currency does a company pay in?
A company pays in the currency of its registered country, even if a Bangladeshi person manages it.
